Like so many people, Layne’s parents came to Frankfort because of state government.
His mom, Maggie Tackett, grew up in Floyd County and moved to Frankfort in 1962 when his grandfather took a position in the Department of Mental Health. She attended Thornhill Middle School and Franklin County High School and graduated from the University of Kentucky.
His Dad, Mike, grew up on a farm in Barren County, one of nine children. He attended Murray State and was the first member of his family to attend college. He moved to Frankfort in 1972 to work for the Department of Agriculture.
Layne graduated from Western Hills High School and Western Kentucky University. After beginning his career in Louisville and Chicago, he returned to Frankfort. He married his wife Natalie in 2004. They decided to make Frankfort their family’s home and start a business. For the last seventeen years, Layne has dedicated his career to helping families build a secure financial future right here in Frankfort.
Layne and Natalie have three teen daughters and just dropped Margaret at college. She, Amelia, and Charlotte are growing up to be strong, independent young women. Layne always says that being a father is the most rewarding experience of his life.
As mayor, Layne has been a persuasive and successful advocate for Frankfort. Fortune 500 companies, developers, and state and federal government are investing in Frankfort. Layne continues to work hard to make sure Frankfort is moving forward and becoming a city where the next generation wants to make their home.
